Before I met Drew Magliozzi, I kept hearing really positive things about him from friends and neighbors, statements like: “He’s smart, energetic, and really cares about the quality of our schools,” and “Oh, he’ll be a great addition to the School Committee, in part due to his expertise in education technology. We really need someone like him.”

Then when I had the chance to meet him at a neighborhood gathering and see him address a series of challenging and complex questions, I was pleasantly reassured:

My friends and neighbors had not been exaggerating — Drew will be a great asset to our School Committee and our community.

For those who don’t know him, Drew is a Concord parent with a highly successful career in education technology marked by a strong commitment to public education and ensuring that all students receive the kind of support and resources they need to succeed.

At the neighborhood gathering, Drew outlined several of his priorities as a candidate:

  • Close achievement gaps for all students by following the data. Drew underscored this evidence-based approach with the familiar quote, “If you can’t measure it, you can’t improve it.”

  • Deal with difficult truths in a collaborative fashion. Racism and antisemitism must be confronted together with candor, deep listening, and shared responsibility.

  • Be open and empathic — and bring respect, curiosity, and collaboration to all your interactions.

For more about Drew, go to his website at DrewForConcord.com or attend one of the various meet-and-greet opportunities in the coming weeks, including the League of Women Voters Candidate Forum on March 15. The election is on Tuesday, March 31.

I hope you’ll join me in supporting Drew Magliozzi.
